This MOOC is part of the Introduction to Management Engineering series, which is intended to introduce prospective master's students and people interested in managerial disciplines to the fundamentals of Management Engineering. The series provides basic concepts and language in the areas of Strategy, Economics, Financial Accounting, Organization, and Operations Management using an analytical and engineering approach.
Project management is a fundamental theme to comprehend and apply in any business setting. One of the most important skills that Project Managers must have is the ability to manage the project throughout its entire life cycle and plan the work required to achieve the desired result. The various phases of a typical project are presented throughout the course. Then, various practical tools are presented with the goal of assisting professionals in effectively managing their projects through the use of useful instruments. The Scope Statement, for example, assists managers in identifying and clearly defining what is and is not part of the project, the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) in identifying activities, the Organizational Breakdown Structure (OBS) in managing the team, the Responsibility Assignment Matrix (RAM) in matching activities and people, and the Gantt Chart in providing a time-based view on the project.
