Description
In this course, you will :
- Get an overview of what life writing is and look at some examples. Investigate the first of three methods for eliciting memories and emotions to inspire your writing.
- Learn how music can transport you to past events and times in your life. Next, check out Tom's third method for prompting life writing with objects and small details.
- Then Tom takes you through one of the most difficult aspects of life writing: putting yourself in the picture.
- Discover how to rewrite historical events from your own point of view. Investigate various techniques for writing with emotion—even when it hurts.
- Apply the writing exercises from the course to your first draught. Conduct research using photographs or interviews to broaden the scope of your piece. When you've finished your first draught, learn how to structure your writing to shape your narrative before going over it line by line.
- Examine an important aspect of the writing process: giving and receiving feedback. To complete the course, consider how you can advance your writing by attempting to write a full-length memoir.
